Ingredients
lb. flour
1 cup sugar
1/2-cup milk
pinch salt
1/4-lb. butter
1 tspn, vanilla
1 level tspn. Bi-carb.
Directions
Boil the sugar, soda and milk together.
When cool, add to the flour and salt into which the butter has been rubbed.
Add the essence. Mix well and roll out. Cut into rounds.
Bake in a moderate oven.

If the liquid mixture is added to the flour when cold, the flavour will be quite different.
